Nancy Clarke

Monday, April 9, 2018, following a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. Nancy was born to Earnest and Anna Williams in Washington, D.C., on August 20, 1941. She was a 1959 graduate of Clearwater High School, Clearwater, Fla., and attended Wesleyan College in Macon, Ga., where she graduated in 1963 with a degree in history.Nancy taught history at Jonesboro High School for one year. Fluent in sign language, she worked as a teaching assistant for hearing impaired students at McDonough Middle School and with 2nd graders at Wesley Lakes Elementary for several years. She also worked in a McDonough flower shop for many years.Nancy was a devoted "Scout" mom and band booster parent for many years. In her spare time she enjoyed antiquing and had a large collection of dolls (especially Barbies), glassware and toys. She was known for buying seemingly worthless things at garage sales and selling them at a much higher price to antique dealers. She loved to travel and was very social, playing bridge for many years. She especially enjoyed playing games with her family. Nancy was a wonderful wife and mother who treated everyone with a grace and style all her own.Nancy is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Ned Clarke; two sons, Wyatt (Elizabeth) Clarke of Georgia and Dan (Tracie) Clarke of Maryland; five grandchildren; a sister, Laura Bernard of Texas; and one niece.Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Haisten Funeral Home, 1745 Zack Hinton Pkwy, McDonough, Ga. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Jack Miller officiating. The body will be cremated. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis. (Henry Herald)
